Slapton is a quaint old village of winding roads and picturesque cottages. Much of the countryside around is leased by the Field Studies Council and is listed as an area of special interest. Slapton Ley with its freshwater lake bordering the coast road, water meadows and marshland provides a home for many migrating and resident birds and is also a bird sanctuary of the National Nature Reserve. Slapton Ley Field Centre organises guided walks and talks and fishing on the Ley.

Slapton Sands, a 3-mile stretch of beach is within walking distance of the cottage and Blackpool Sands, Start Point and Lannacombe Bay are all a short drive away. Alternatively, you can walk the spectacular National Trust Coastal Path between Salcombe and Dartmouth. Details of other attractions within the South Hams area are available for visitors in the cottage.
